Several friends and I have had problems lately with the on-board computer in
GM cars. Does anyone know of a source of a schematic diagram for these beasts.
Alternately does anyone know of the source of a definition of the interface to
the diagnostic connector. i.e. what is the output data format for the
connector once the proper input signal is activitated to tell the computer to
start outputting data.
I have a diagnostic tester for GM computers which I bought at a flea market.
It works quite well for working on "run-of-the-mill" problems. I’m now
interested in getting a bit deeper into the operation of the computer itself.
Any informationn will be appreciated.
thanks

whatever it is, it’s funky and can change from year to year, although
a small set of connectors will get you connected to just about any
semi late model GM car. Ed Rinda Labs makes a set of connectors and
software which make a really peachy package (satisfied customer me).
the connectors connect to a PC parallel port.
bidirectional PC parallel port stuff is funky, before you
even get to the GM ECM.

what sort of tester do you have?
with the Rinda tester, you can monitor about 50 parameters in
real time (updated every second or so). that’s with a TPI motor.
there are fewer
